The Arkansas landscape has seen many changes over the last century. To maintain healthy populations of quail, native pollinators, and other wildlife, we must take an active management role on our properties. Prescribed fire is an important tool in managing for wildlife, healthy forests, and native ecosystems. Managing our woodlands and open grasslands for increased diversity of native grasses and wildflowers is key to improving habitats for quail and pollinators. Active management of our forests can greatly improve the health and productivity, as well as the habitat value. Practices like timber stand thinning, invasive species control, and increasing native ground vegetation in combination with prescribed fire can help accomplish a diversity of landowner goals. Ryan Diener, Arkansas State Coordinator with the Pheasant's and Quail Forever will address the benefits of prescribed fire and habitat improvement in this Zoom presentation.
