ForestryWorks is a collaborative effort by the ForestWorkforce Training Institute and other partners within the forest industry to develop a pipeline of qualified workers for the logging and wood product manufacturing industries. The Arkansas Forestry Association is a State Affiliate Partner of ForestryWorks.
We educate students, parents, and teachers about careers and job opportunities in the forest industry, and provide interested students with resources to help them along their career path. It is our mission to provide the next generation with the resources, skills and guidance needed to join the forest and wood products manufacturing workforce. By partnering with education and private business within the Southeast’s forest industry, we cultivate careers, build communities and stimulate local economies.
Forestry jobs in Arkansas pay a 134% higher salary than the statewide average, yet many of those positions go unfilled. Educating youth in the field of forestry is vital at filling these in-demand careers.
Green jobs represent one of the fastest growing and changing segments of the global economy. At the same time, today’s youth are seeking rewarding careers that help us move toward more sustainable lifestyles and greener economies. Some of the most exciting—and perhaps greenest jobs—involve forests.
Project Learning Tree recently released a new curriculum and activity guide focusing on forestry careers. The Green Jobs: Exploring Forest Careers unit includes four hands-on, NGSS aligned, instructional activities to help youth research forestry jobs, and practice managing and monitoring forest resources.
The Green Jobs curriculum is designed for science and STEM educators, career and guidance counselors, Scouts, 4-H, and FFA leaders, foresters, and job training advisors to use with learners aged 12–25 in settings ranging from community youth programs and school classrooms, to college and career prep.
Contact Rob Beadel, Director of Forestry Education if you are interested in scheduling future professional development trainings or have a need for a conference speaker or session.
