Since the program began in 1993, loggers and members of the
forestry community have demonstrated their commitment to Arkansas's
children by raising more than $12 million for Arkansas Children's
Hospital at events throughout the state. The program is sponsored by the
Arkansas Forestry Association in cooperation with the Arkansas Timber
Producers Association.
Arkansas Log A Load For Kids has funded one $4 million endowment in support of the Emergency Department and Trauma Unit at ACH, two $1.5 million endowments—one in pediatric cardiovascular surgery and another in support of the Angel One helicopter transport program—and one $1 million endowment in support of the hospital’s imaging and radiation program.
In 2017, Log A Load for Kids committed to raising $1.5 million over two years to fund the cardio thoracic surgery endowment chair. As of 2020, the group is working to raise $2.5 million over the next five years for the Heart Institute.
To raise funds, event coordinators in communities throughout
the state host fish fry dinners, live and silent auctions, and other
activities. The program has raised the following approximate amounts:

The program started in South Carolina in
1988 when two loggers were discussing ways in which they could make a
positive contribution to their community. This idea spread to other
states (28 states currently participate) and began in Arkansas in 1993.
