What is forest certification?
Forest certification is a voluntary third-party process that identifies and recognizes well-managed forest land. It takes into consideration the ecological, economic, and social components of forests and surrounding communities.
Through chain-of-custody certification, fiber from certified forestland can move through production streams, thus enabling the end product to receive a certified logo informing customers that the product came from a certified, well-managed forest and was manufactured responsibly.
There are three primary forest certification programs for forest lands: Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and the American Tree Farm System (ATFS).
The Arkansas Forestry Association Education Foundation invites you to come learn about these three certification programs, eat dinner, and have the opportunity to visit and network with forest landowners, forestry professionals, and natural resource agency staff on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 in Arkadelphia.
